Shillong, Feb 21: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya Police on February 20 intercepted a suspected drug consignment near the Shillong Bypass and arrested one individual in connection with the case.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, an ANTF team laid a naka near ISBT Shillong along the bypass road after receiving information that a person would be arriving to hand over a consignment of contraband.
The team intercepted a Maruti 800 (Registration No. ML-05-K-7414) and apprehended the suspect, identified as Wanbor Kharpran. Upon searching following due legal procedures, officers recovered two plastic boxes containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 22.14 grams.
The accused, along with the seized contraband and vehicle, has been handed over to Mawlai Police Station for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Police sources said further investigation is underway to examine forward and backward linkages and to determine whether the case has any inter-state nexus. The seizure adds to a series of intensified anti-narcotics operations being carried out in and around Shillong in recent months.
