Shillong, Nov 19: As Meghalaya prepares for next Assembly Polls scheduled for 2023, former MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Friday formally launched a new political party christen ‘The Voice of The People Party’ (VPP) at Laitkor, Shillong.

The VPP was formally launched in its first general meeting at the party president Ardent Basaiamoit’s residence in the presence of the party’s workers and supporters at Kynton U Mon, Laitkor.

VPP president in his speech said the party vision will be based on three ideologies – revive, restore and transform Meghalaya.Restore means to restore back the glorious beauty and environment of the State. To revive what it has lost, to revive the state’s good values, good virtues, self respect and, most importantly,  to revive the economy; the economy of the state is dead especially in the rural areas he said.

“We have nothing to feel proud of our State… We are a backward state,” expressed Ardent while stressing that there is a need for transforming the present sorry state of affairs in the State to a dignified one. “Our party will make sure to take the State from the least performing to the best performing State, these are our main goals and objectives,” announced Ardent.

The VPP Constitution was also formally adopted in the meeting on Friday. Ardent further announced that the flag of the party will be a combination of blue and white, while the party symbol will be announced later.
