Itanagar, May 26: The 9th anniversary of Martyr Havildar Hangpan Dada, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), was observed with profound respect and solemnity at his memorial in Borduria village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Monday. The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of military personnel, government officials, local leaders, and citizens, all united in honoring the brave soldier’s sacrifice.

The tribute saw the presence of Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps; Wangling Lowangdong, MLA and Adviser to the Minister for Environment & Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh; Techu Aran, Deputy Commissioner of Tirap; Singjatla Singpho, Superintendent of Police; Brig. Sarabjeet Singh, Commander, 25 Sector, Assam Rifles; Col. Ankit Harjai, Commanding Officer, 44 Assam Rifles; and Lamkhokam Lhoujem, Commandant, 36 Bn CRPF. Also in attendance were Veer Nari Chasen Lowang Dada, the martyr’s wife, along with senior public leader Wangman Lowangcha, Gaon Buras, ex-servicemen, and other dignitaries.
The event, imbued with patriotic fervor, also saw active participation from veterans, members of the martyr’s family, and local residents, underscoring the nation’s unwavering gratitude and respect for its valiant soldiers.
Lt Gen Pendharkar personally interacted with the martyr’s family, reiterating the steadfast support of both the Army and the nation for their immense sacrifice. He also addressed ex-servicemen (ESM) from Tirap and Longding districts, commending their continued dedication to the nation and assuring them of the armed forces’ commitment to their well-being.
During his homage, MLA Wanglin Lowangdong lauded the state government’s decision to rename the Chief Minister’s Trophy as the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (Football & Volleyball) eight years ago. He further urged the state government to consider naming significant institutions, such as a Sainik School or other key establishments in the Capital Region, Itanagar, in the martyr’s honor.
The program concluded with a short story presentation on the life and heroism of Martyr Hangpan Dada, witnessed by all attendees.
