GUWAHATI, Jan 8: In a tragic incident, two picnickers were killed and 11 others were injured in an accident in Karimganj district of Assam on Saturday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Aftab Uddin Laskar and Biswajit Lohar, residents of the Kathlisera Sourangi area of Hailakandi district.

According to police, the picnic party’s vehicle fell into a ditch in the Ratabari region. “A group of youth went to a picnic at Katlicherra in the neighbouring Hailakandi district where their vehicle met with an accident while returning back,” said a police official.

He said, “There were 13 people in the vehicle. They were going to Prafulla Bagan area of Hailakandi when their vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch.”

“The injured were immediately taken to a hospital in Katlicherra before being transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Among 13, two people died due to severe injuries,” he added.
