Shillong, June 5: Rakkam A. Sangma, Chairman of Meghalaya Resources & Employment Generation Council, (MREGC) Government of Meghalaya, emphasized that sustainable environmental impact is very important and called for collective action from all sections of society.

Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026 organized by Hid Foundation Shillong at the State Convention Centre, he strongly stressed that preserving the environment is very important. He urged every citizen to take self-responsibility to protect Mother Nature, which God has given us to sustain and grow life.

Sangma highlighted that environmental conservation cannot be left to governments alone. He called upon youth, community organizations, and citizens to actively participate in tree plantation, waste management, and other green initiatives for a healthier Meghalaya.

He further added that we should not only celebrate one day in a year, but we must act every day to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations.

The programme was organized by Hid Foundation Shillong as part of its 14th anniversary celebrations.
