Dibrugarh, June 6: A man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly assaulting a lawyer inside the premises of the Dibrugarh Bar Association, triggering strong reactions from members of the legal fraternity.
The accused, identified as Ganga Sagar Paswan alias Gama Paswan, allegedly attacked Advocate Rajesh Kesari while visiting him at the Bar Association premises.
According to police, Paswan, who is a client of Kesari, had come to meet the lawyer when he allegedly launched a sudden physical assault, leaving the advocate injured.

Lawyers and staff present at the Bar Association rushed to Kesari’s aid and immediately alerted the police. Officers from Dibrugarh Police Station reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
Based on a complaint lodged following the incident, police detained Paswan and later arrested him. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the attack.
The motive behind the assault remains unclear, and police are examining all angles.
The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from members of the Dibrugarh Bar Association, who described the attack as a serious breach of safety within the court premises and demanded stringent action against the accused.
Legal fraternity members said violence against advocates cannot be tolerated and called for measures to ensure the security of lawyers carrying out their professional duties.
Police said further investigation is underway.
