Kohima, July 27: Assam Rifles on Saturday hosted a special screening of the documentary “Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History” at its headquarters in Laitkor, Shillong, spotlighting the rich oral traditions and cultural heritage of the Naga people.
Produced under Project Empathy, the documentary was conceptualised by Vibha Lakhera and directed by Parasher Baruah. It chronicles stories of resilience, identity and indigenous knowledge, while advocating empathy, reconciliation and the preservation of oral traditions.
The event was attended by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, as the chief guest. Also present were Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area, along with senior Army and Assam Rifles officers, students, media representatives and citizens of Shillong.
A highlight of the evening was the first public performance of “Walk With Me” by the Assam Rifles Public School Choir.
Inspired by stories collected through Project Empathy’s Naga Oral History initiative, the song carried themes of compassion, resilience and unity.
Organisers said the screening aimed to promote awareness of the Northeast’s diverse cultural heritage while underscoring the importance of preserving oral histories for future generations. They added that the initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to encourage dialogue, cultural preservation and national integration through community engagement.
