Guwahati, Dec 20: Assam police detained All India Youth Congress (AIYC) leader, Uday Bhanu Shiv in a hotel in Guwahati on Friday morning.

According to sources, the Youth Congress leader had come to Guwahati to participate in a protest organized by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday.

According to reports, the hotel where he was detained is located in the city’s Manik Nagar area.

Police personnel have been stationed in front of the hotel.

Bhanu Shiv has also been restricted from using his phone.

On the other hand, the Guwahati city police registered a suo-moto case following disturbances caused by the APCC’s Raj Bhavan Cholo protest on December 18.

The protest, which addressed issues such as smart meters, Adani controversy and the situation in Manipur led to a confrontation between demonstrators and police. The police fired teargas shells to disperse the protestors. A Congress worker, Advocate Mridul Islam also lost his life after the confrontation with the police, though police sources claimed that the victim had not incurred any external injuries and had been unwell before the protests.
