Guwahati, Sept 11: Body of one more person, who went missing following the boat accident in Nimatighat, has been recovered.
The body was recovered on Saturday morning and has been identified as Indreshwar Bora. Bora’s body was recovered at a waterbody inside the Kaziranga National Park.
On Friday, Indreshwar Bora’s bag was recovered at Biswanath Ghat.
Indreshwar Bora rescued others
Indreshwar Bora (Jaan) along with his wife Ruprekha from Rampur in Nowboisa area in Lakhimpur district was travelling in the ill-fated boat on Wednesday after visiting the Dhekikahowa Namghar.
Bora, a school teacher at Rajgarh High School, rescued his wife Ruprekha and other fellow passengers to safety before going missing with the sinking vessel in the Brahmaputra.
Bora’s body has been sent to Biswanath Chariali and will be taken for post-mortem before handing over to family members.
Biswanath SP, Leena Doley said the body was found by a local fisherman at Bhasa Tapu near Bishwanath Ghat and later recovered by the police.
“The documents recovered from the wallet confirm the body belongs to Indreshwar Bora. However, final confirmation can be done only after post mortem report is available,” Doley said.
One person still missing
At least two persons have been killed and one is still missing after a single-engine private boat with around 92 passengers heading to Majuli collided with a government owned ferry near Nimatighat on Wednesday.
NDRF and SDRF has been carrying out the search and rescue operation. Another person Dr Bikramjit Baruah is still missing.
Sarbananda Sonowal visits tragedy site
Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday visited Nimatighat to take stock of the ferry tragedy.
Sonowal assured the people of Majuli that within four years the construction work of Majuli bridge will be completed.
The people of Majuli held government responsible for the incident because of the bridge between Jorhat and Majuli.
Single engine boats banned
Meanwhile, single engine boats have been banned in the state after the incident. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given directive for conversion of single engine into marine engine, for which 75% subsidy would be given to the private boat owners.
