Assam clears ₹100cr 112 emergency system

Must read

Guwahati, July 5: Assam will soon have a unified 112 emergency response system, allowing people to access police, fire, ambulance and disaster response services through a single number after the state Cabinet on Saturday approved a ₹100-crore police response upgrade.

The Integrated Emergency Response System (112), similar to those operational in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, aims to significantly improve emergency response across the state. The government will deploy around 200 mobile police response vehicles, establish a central control room at Dergaon, and dispatch the nearest response unit immediately to emergency locations.

“Our target is to respond to any emergency within 10 minutes and that will now be possible with this system,” a government statement said.

Among other key decisions, the Cabinet approved the Assam Tourism (Amendment) Bill for introduction in the upcoming Budget Session and decided to repeal the old Sarai Act, with its key provisions to be incorporated into the new tourism legislation.

The Cabinet also cleared the Assam MSME Act, which will allow micro and small enterprises to begin operations without prior government permission, except for polluting industries that will continue to require statutory clearances.
It further approved the Guwahati Satellite City Development Bill, under which the proposed satellite city will be developed by a dedicated government authority instead of private entities.

The Assam Minor Mineral Concession Rules were amended to impose a transit fee on vehicles transporting sand, stone and other minor minerals into the state. The Cabinet also approved setting up an Amul milk processing plant at Biswanath Chariali and withdrew the earlier austerity measure restricting foreign travel by government officers.

Amendments to Chapter XII of the Assam Land Revenue Act were also approved and will be introduced during the Budget Session.

Reviewing the flood situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government was closely monitoring developments and would invoke the Disaster Management framework if required.
