Tura, Feb 3: One Mahindra pick-up truck driver who buys betelnuts from Garo farmers to resale in Assam is missing in South Garo Hills for the last two days.

Md. Nur who is also an owner of the vehicle is a resident of Mancachar, South Salmara district of Assam. Nur went to South Garo Hills district to strike a deal with betelnut farmers wherein he would buy their produce in bulk and transport it to Assam for resale.

Nur was in Baghmara town on Tuesday and drove the vehicle himself proceeding towards Karukol and Siju, a famous betelnut plantation area when he went missing.

His family was unable to contact him since Tuesday and he and his vehicle could not be located. It is learned that someone called his family via phone in Mancachar demanding a ransom for his release.

South Garo Hills police are investigating the matter and conducting a search to locate and bring him back safely.
