According to eyewitness the mishap occurred due to poor-quality construction work, allegedly under the supervision of the contractor and departmental engineer.

The renovated facility stands on the premises of the former National Highways Authority of India’s Kamrup Division office, which was vacated after relocation. Renovation responsibilities were undertaken by the Public Works Department (Housing).

Following the mishap, newly appointed Co-District Commissioner Priyanshu Bharadwaj termed the incident “unfortunate” and assured that necessary repairs would be undertaken promptly.
