Guwahati, July 7: Assam is looking to deepen its partnership with Japan in key sectors such as semiconductors, clean energy and Japanese language training, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said after meeting Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi in New Delhi on Monday.
The meeting began with Cha-no-yu, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, before the two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in industry, technology and skill development.
Sarma said Assam is keen to play a bigger role in strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership by attracting Japanese investment, technology and expertise to the state.

The Chief Minister said the discussions focused on forging collaborations in semiconductor research, clean energy initiatives and specialised Japanese language training to equip Assam’s workforce for emerging opportunities.
Taking to X, Sarma thanked the Japanese envoy for hosting him at his official residence in the national capital.
“I am grateful to H.E. Mr. Ono Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, for hosting me at his residence in New Delhi for Cha-no-yu, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony,” he wrote.
The meeting comes as Assam and Japan continue to expand engagement across sectors including industry, technology, infrastructure and skill development.
According to officials, Nippon Express Holdings, Inc. is exploring the feasibility of semiconductor logistics in Gujarat and Assam.
