Assam Govt to set up paddy procurement centres in Barak Valley

Dispur, Jan 9: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today dedicated the Udarbond Police Station to the service of the people under MOITRI scheme. At the same time, he also inaugurated Jaypur police station virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that with the inauguration of five police stations in Barak Valley, the government’s intent of making smart police in Barak Valley also has been made possible. He said that in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for making smart policing a reality, State government has taken the initiative of upgrading and modernizing the police stations under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme. This has helped the police forces in the state to ensure security to the lives and properties of the people along with bringing in and strengthening peace in the state. Sonowal said that in the changing face of science and technology, the commission of a crime and its manifestation has undergone a sea change. In view of these changing circumstances, the police forces have to attune themselves to stop the perpetration of crime on the common masses.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that the present State government has laid tremendous importance on the equal development of both Barak and Brahmaputra Valleys. He also at the same time observed that the overall development of the state is possible only when all areas of the state enjoy the fruits of good governance. Hailing the people of Barak Valley for their role in strengthening the peace and tranquility, Sonowal said that has played an unprecedented role in making peace and progress of the valley altogether to a greater height.

He also said that the farmers of the Barak Valley Region by virtue of their dedication, diligence, and devotion made a turn-around in agricultural production.  In view of this, the State government has asked the Food Corporation of India to set up paddy procurement centres in all the districts to help the farmers to sell their produce for the fixed MSP that is Rs. 1868 committed by the government. Reiterating the government’s commitment to the overall development of Barak Valley, Sonowal said that the quality and rate of development ushered in by the BJP led government in stark contrast to the previous Congress government has been the hallmark of the present dispensation of the state. Sonowal on the occasion demonstrated his government’s initiative of overhauling river transportation through the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers to export Assam’s production via the Bay of Bengal to other neighbouring countries.

Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahata also spoke in the meeting the welcome address of which was given by the SP of Cacher Bhanwar Lal Meena. Minister of Environment and Forests Parimal Suklabaidya, Deputy Speaker Assam Legislative Assembly Aminul Haque, MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MLAs Mihir Kanti Shome, Kishore Nath, Dilip Paul, Amar Chand Jain, Managing Director Assam Police Housing Corporation Limited Arabinda Kalita, DIG South Assam Division Dilip Kumar Dey, DC Keerrthi Jally and host of others were present on the occasion.

Later Chief Minister Sonowal inaugurated the newly built Dholai Police station. At the same programme, Sonowal also inaugurated Hailakandi and Badarpur police stations virtually.
