Tinsukia, Jan 10: A leopard attack in Philobari, Upper Assam, left three people injured on Friday morning, causing widespread panic in the area.
The first victim, Srimanta Gohain, was attacked while traveling from Torani to Philobari. Shortly after, the leopard struck again, injuring Rohin Moran and Purnima Moran, who were heading in the opposite direction.
The incidents occurred near the Small Tea Growers Association office, close to Bijuliban Middle English School in Philobari, Tinsukia district. All three injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The leopard has emerged from the nearby jungle, creating an atmosphere of fear in the locality. We are having sleepless nights because of its presence. Today, it attacked three people on their way,” said Puna Moran, a local resident.
Forest authorities have been alerted and are working to capture the animal safely. “We were informed about the leopard’s presence in the area and have brought a tranquilizer to subdue it,” a forest official stated.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of residents and manage the situation effectively.
