Assam Rifles honours Nagaland's Kargil hero Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse on Vijay Diwas

Kohima, July 25: The Assam Rifles on Saturday organised a commemorative bike rally in Kohima to mark the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to the bravery and supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil War.

The rally, organised by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), was dedicated to Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra (Posthumous), one of Nagaland’s most decorated war heroes whose gallantry during the Kargil conflict continues to inspire generations.

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav flagged off the rally from the Assam Rifles Garrison Helipad in Kohima. Ahead of the flag-off, the Governor felicitated the parents of Captain Kenguruse in recognition of their son’s extraordinary sacrifice and service to the nation, in the presence of the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (North).

The rally saw enthusiastic participation from ex-servicemen, civil society members and several motorcycle clubs from Kohima, including The Tribe Motorcycle Club, Taho Bikers, Mods on Kohima and Royal Sons Nagaland. The event aimed to promote patriotism, strengthen national integration and honour the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces and their families.

The rally concluded at the Captain N. Kenguruse Memorial in Nerhema village of Kohima district, where participants were received by the martyr’s parents. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial, with serving soldiers, veterans and local dignitaries paying homage to the Kargil hero.

Captain Kenguruse displayed exceptional courage during the Kargil War and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest wartime gallantry award, for his conspicuous bravery in combat.

The commemorative programme concluded with a tribute to the enduring legacy of the Kargil heroes and a call to uphold the values of courage, sacrifice and selfless service. Mementoes were presented to participants in appreciation of their support.

The Assam Rifles said such initiatives reaffirm its commitment to honouring the nation’s bravehearts while fostering patriotism, youth engagement and stronger civil-military ties across the Northeast.
