Guwahati, June 25: A grenade explosion rocked the Sapajuri Panbari area in Bokakhat sub-division of Assam’s Golaghat district on Tuesday evening, injuring three Assam Police personnel and triggering panic among locals.

The blast occurred inside a police camp, previously occupied by the CRPF, and currently used by an Assam Police battalion.

Preliminary reports suggest that the grenade was hurled by unidentified miscreants riding a motorcycle, pointing to a possible targeted attack.

The three injured policemen have been identified as Siddharth Borborua, Sushil Bhumij, and Mintu Hazarika. They were rushed to Bokakhat Civil Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Following the blast, a high-level investigation was initiated under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer. Security has been intensified across the region, and a large-scale search operation is currently underway to trace the attackers.

Police sources have not ruled out the involvement of militant elements and are treating the incident as a serious security breach.

A resident who witnessed the incident recounted: “We were cooking when a biker came and threw something. A few seconds later, there was a deafening explosion. The blast shook the area, and thick smoke covered the sky. We later found out that three policemen had been injured.”
