Dibrugarh, April 4: Security forces apprehended an ULFA(I) cadre and a linkman in a joint operation at Joypur in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Sunday.
The joint operation was carried out by Spear Corps Warriors on a specific input about the movement of a suspected cadre with a weapon in the area of Phaltutola under Police station Joypur in Dibrugarh District of Assam.
The apprehended cadre has been identified as Yasin Khan (31), a resident of village Jagun, Naharkatia and the linkman Bintu Sharma (33).
One 7.62 mm pistol with 4 rounds was also recovered from them.
During the initial questioning both the apprehended persons confessed to having links with the ULFA(I) outfit.
They have been handed over to the Police for further investigations.
Sources said that ULFA(I) linkman and sympathisers are trying to recruit youths from the rural areas of upper Assam.
However, their attempts have been foiled many times by the security forces.
“Most of the cadres of ULFA(I) were from villages of upper Assam. The upper Assam has always been a soft target of the proscribed organisation,” said a source.
