Assam: Villagers congratulate Lovlina Borgohain on winning World Championship gold

Guwahati, March 27: Following Lovlina Borgohain creating history by winning her maiden World Championship gold medal in boxing in New Delhi on Sunday, grand celebrations were held at her residence in Borpathar village.

She defeated Australia’s Caitlin Parker via a split decision in the closely-fought 75kg final bout held at the KD Jadhav Indoor stadium in New Delhi. The victory was a testament to Lovlina’s hard work, dedication, and persistence, and her fans and supporters were thrilled to witness her triumph.

After the match, the news of Lovlina’s win spread like wildfire, and her fans in her hometown of Borpathar village in Golaghat district, Assam, flocked to her residence to congratulate her and her family members. The atmosphere was electric, and there were celebrations all around. Lovlina’s family members distributed sweets among the fans and well-wishers who had come to express their happiness and pride in Lovlina’s achievement.

Tiken Borgohain, Lovlina’s father, expressed his joy and pride at his daughter’s victory. He said, “We are happy that Lovlina won gold medal in the World Championship. We didn’t watch the game but after the game was over, someone from New Delhi informed us that Lovlina has won the World Championship. I am happy with her performance. Her dream to bring gold medal in World Championship has been fulfilled today. As you see that people and her fan coming to our house. Everybody is happy in our Village.”

One of Lovlina’s fans in Golaghat described how he watched the match and how the fight unfolded. He said, “We have seen the match. In the first round, Lovlina took the lead but in the second round her opponent took the lead but in the third round Lovlina came back in the game and defeated her opponent Caitlin Parker.”

Lovlina’s victory was also recognized by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who congratulated her on her achievement. He took to Twitter to express his joy and pride, saying, ” Lovlina makes Assam proud again by striking Gold medal in #WorldBoxingChampionships. Many Congratulations @LovlinaBorgohai. We’re all so thrilled. My best wishes and blessings for your future endeavours.”

Lovlina Borgohain, who had won the World Championships Bronze in 2018 and 2019, put behind the disappointment of losing in the quarter-final stage of the Commonwealth Games last year to reign supreme in New Delhi. Her family and fans are overjoyed at her success, and they believe that she will continue to bring glory to Assam and India with her impressive skills and determination.
