Team Europe delegation to launch Assam’s first Blue Valley Cluster, explore opportunities in semiconductors, renewable energy, tea and healthcare sectors

Guwahati, June 7: A high-level delegation of European Union ambassadors and business leaders will visit Assam on June 8 and 9 to explore trade, investment and industrial partnerships with Northeast India, marking a significant step in efforts to deepen economic ties between Europe and the region.

The “Team Europe” delegation, led by European Union Ambassador to India and Bhutan Hervé Delphin, will hold talks with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and participate in a major business outreach programme aimed at connecting European investors with emerging opportunities in the Northeast.

A key highlight of the visit will be the launch of Assam’s first Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial hub focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH products and food processing. The initiative seeks to link businesses in Northeast India, Bhutan and Europe through research, innovation and sustainable manufacturing partnerships.

The delegation’s visit comes months after the European Union and India adopted a Comprehensive Strategic Agenda at their summit in New Delhi, with both sides identifying stronger state-level partnerships as a priority for expanding economic cooperation.

According to the EU, discussions during the visit will focus on sectors where Assam and the Northeast possess strong growth potential and complementarities with European industries, including renewable energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing.

Alongside diplomatic engagements, a business delegation led by the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) will meet state government officials to identify investment opportunities and strengthen commercial linkages.

The delegation will also participate in the “Blue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains between India and Europe” workshop in Guwahati on June 9, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs from both sides to explore partnerships in sustainable value chains and innovation-driven industries.

The Blue Valley initiative, introduced during the 2026 EU-India Summit, aims to develop industrial clusters and strengthen value-chain integration between Europe and India in sectors such as clean energy, natural ingredients, bamboo-based industries, eco-friendly textiles, biotechnology, wellness products and smart manufacturing.

EU Ambassador Hervé Delphin said the Northeast’s natural resources, skilled workforce and rapid economic growth make it an attractive destination for European businesses.

“While the general contours to strengthen EU-India ties have been finalised at the EU-India Summit, it will have to take roots at the state level,” Delphin said, adding that the EU was encouraged by Assam’s progress and the opportunities emerging through initiatives such as Blue Valley.

The European delegation will also visit Tata Electronics’ semiconductor facility in Assam, highlighting growing international interest in the state’s emerging role in India’s electronics and high-technology manufacturing ecosystem.

The visit is expected to provide European investors with a first-hand assessment of Assam’s industrial infrastructure and business environment while opening new avenues for collaboration across sectors ranging from tea and natural products to advanced manufacturing and green technologies.
