Shillong, Sept 13: In a joint operation with the Raksamgre Civil Sub division and police, the Forest Department has taken swift and decisive action against illegal timber operations.
Acting on complaints from various NGOs, authorities successfully shut down six illegal sawmills on Friday(Sept 12).
The coordinated raids were carried out in the Belguri, Rongsai, Hatugaon, and Pedaldoba areas.

The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of timber and various pieces of equipment used in the illegal activities.
The operations are ongoing, with authorities continuing to pursue leads to curb all illegal logging and sawmill within the region.
This action underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the environment and cracking down on activities that threaten the region’s rich forest resources.
The departments involved are very serious about stopping all illegal activities that harm the environment and will continue to work together to ensure the preservation of local ecosystems.
