Baghmara raid results in over 700 bottles phensedyl cough syrup seizure

TURA, Oct 13: A massive number of the illegal intoxicant Phensedyl cough syrup has been confiscated by Baghmara police in South Garo Hills following two raids on Thursday night.

A police naka checking, based on source information, intercepted two drug peddlers moving in an auto rickshaw and attempting to transport a part of the consignment from Dabigre to Meata village.

They were stopped by the police at Reserve Gittim area of Baghmara around 5 PM.

On checking the autorickshaw police found sacks packed with the cough syrup. A total number of 496 bottles of phensedyl cough syrup was found in the vehicle.

On preliminary interrogation by police, the two detained peddlers confessed that the consignment was loaded by another person from an abandoned house in the blue hills area of Dabigre village.

Anti-narcotics team of the police rushed to the village and raided the house and found another 291 bottles of the cough syrup, bringing the total to 787 bottles. Cases have been registered and investigation begun to identify the main supplier.
