Shillong, May 15: The BJP will name its candidate for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election only after the Election Commission of India declares the poll dates, party chief spokesperson M. Kharkrang said on Friday.
“The BJP will announce the name of the candidate after election dates are declared by the Election Commission of India,” Kharkrang told reporters.

Asked about the delay, he said, “That is how the party functions. You have seen in the last elections also we had waited till the elections were declared. So that is how the party functions so be patient, wait.”
So far, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has announced KAS president Dr. DRL Nonglait as its official candidate. The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has named Prof. Batskhem Myrboh, while the Congress is set to field three-time former Shillong MP and MPCC chief Vincent H Pala. The UDP is yet to take a call on the issue.
