Must read

Namsai, July 22: Even as security forces intensified counter-insurgency operations in eastern Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of multiple Ulfa (Independent) hit squads in the region, the recovery of yet another bomb today has created a sensation.

Namsai Superintendent of Police (SP) Sange Thinley said the bomb was recovered by security forces from Nongtaw Khampti village, close to the site where an IED was recovered on Saturday.

He said the area was immediately cordoned off by the forces, and the process to verify the nature of the bomb is currently underway.

Earlier, security forces deployed in the region had received intelligence that multiple Ulfa (I) hit squads had infiltrated the area to carry out terror and subversive activities in the run-up to Independence Day celebrations.

Last Thursday, the Assam Rifles recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Namdapha National Park in Changlang district.

Security forces in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have intensified naka checking across several areas to prevent any untoward incident.

Eastern Arunachal Pradesh remains a vulnerable zone, as insurgents can easily infiltrate from across the Myanmar border.
