BSF cyclists given warm welcome at Killapara War Memorial

Tura, Feb 4: Today a warm welcome programme was organised at border outpost BOP/ICP in Killapara, Dalu, where a war memorial is located for the 13 BSF cyclists taking part in the Maitri Cycle Rally by senior officials of the BSF with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officers,  local government authority and local villagers with school students.

Bangladesh is celebrating the birth centenary Father of the Nation Bamgabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, named as “Mujib Borsho”.
In solidarity with Bangladesh and Border Guard Bangladesh, the Border Security Force has organized  “Maitri Cycle Rally” w.e.f 10th January 2021 from border outpost Panitar, North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal which will culminate at Border outpost Silkore Mizoram. 13 Cyclists from different BSF HQrs are participating in this Rally. The rally will be completed in 66 days covering 4,097 km distance and it will be passing through the bordering states viz. West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The rally entered in West Garo Hills under the area of responsibility of Meghalaya Frontier on 2nd January 2021.
Various programmes are being organized by the locals and Border Security Force at various Border Posts en-route to encourage and cheer up to the morale of the Cyclist.
Today at Killapara outpost, the cyclists were welcomed by Pankaj Kumar Singh IPS, ADG Eastern Command, BSF,  Hardeep Singh, IG BSF Frontier Meghalaya, S K Sharma, DIG SHQ BSF Tura, Anurag Kumar, IPS DIG Western Range of Meghalaya police,  Ram Singh, IAS, DC West Garo Hills, M G R Raghvendra, IPS SP Tura, Priyanshu Pandey, IPS, SP South Garo Hills, Lt Col Md Tauhid Mahmud, psc Commanding officer, 39 BGB, Major M M Zubaer, AC, Second in Command of 39 BGB along with other BSF, BGB personnel, Local government authorities were present and approx 500 local civilians also witnessed the programme.
During the programme Pankaj Kumar Singh, IPS ADG Eastern Command BSF and Lt Col Md Tauhid Mahmud, CO 39 BGB Paid floral tribute at War memorial Kilapara in the honour of war heroes who sacrificed their lives during 1971 war.
War veterans of 1971, Retd. BSF Personnel, Cyclists of the Rally and participants of the various cultural programme were honoured by ADG Eastern Command, BSF and CO of 39 BGB.
During the programme Lt Col Tauhid, CO of the 39 BGB said Bangladesh Border Guards are truly grateful to the BSF and India for organizing this rally. He said It will boost our cordial relationship.
