Shillong, June 4: The state government has decided to establish the State’s Seed Certification Agency.
The decision was approved by the state Cabinet chaired by chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the availability of seeds, the quality of seeds, quantity of seeds and time of the availability the seeds is very critical for farmers.

Earlier, the certification was done from Assam.
“Therefore, today we have decided to come up with a seed certifying agency, which will then certify different farmers, entrepreneurs, producers, who can then produce seeds, saplings and then further supplied it to the state government or to the farmers.
This is a very important step as it will ensure that the farmers are then able to get adequate supply of different seeds, quality of different seeds would be good and the price at which they would be get it would also be good,” he added.
