Williamnagar, Feb 25: Marking the formal beginning of his campaign for the 01-Siju GHADC Constituency, official MDC candidate Calis G. Momin, popularly known as Pimpu, launched his election journey on February 25 with an inaugural prayer service at his residence in Rongara Gulpani.
The programme signified not only a spiritual commencement but also a call for unity and collective support as Momin prepares to enter the electoral battle. The prayer service was led by Parish Priest of Rongara, Fr. Dominic Sangma, along with the pastors of Rongara Baptist Church Dingse Nosilchi Marak and Presline Sangma, and Benting Sangma of UCA Rongara.
Following the service, Momin held his first official interaction with supporters, outlining his commitment to grassroots development, community welfare, and strengthened representation for the people of the Rongara–Siju area. Senior citizens, local leaders, and well-wishers attended in large numbers, reflecting growing mobilisation at the constituency level.
The District President of NPP, South Garo Hills, Satto R. Marak, was also present, signalling party backing and organisational support as the campaign gains momentum.
Calis G. Momin carries a strong political legacy as the son of Late Lotsing A. Sangma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader. Late Sangma, who represented the Baghmara constituency and served as Deputy Chief Minister in 2001, was widely regarded as a prominent Garo leader.
With the campaign officially underway, Momin is expected to intensify outreach efforts across villages under the 01-Siju GHADC Constituency in the coming days.
