Tura, Sept 10: Cheran Mahari defeated Nokrek Mahari by 3-1 at the pre-quarter final match played at the Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Field in Chandmary in Tura on Wednesday.
The first half saw both teams launching persistent attacks. The scoring began in the 13th minute when Tangsil Ch Momin put Cheran Mahari ahead.
Nokrek Mahari’s Jonseng Ch Marak leveled the score in the 22nd minute, but the tie was short-lived as Tangsil Ch Momin scored his second goal in the 26th minute, giving Cheran mahari a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Tangsil Ch Momin completed his hat-trick and sealed the victory for Cheran Mahari in the second half, scoring the final goal in the 49th minute.
Despite their best efforts, the Nokrek Mahari team was unable to convert their chances into goals.
The match also saw its only cautionary moment when Prothen M Sangma was awarded a yellow card for a foul. Tangsil Ch Momin of Cheran mahari was awarded the player of the match for his exceptional performance.
The tournament is set to continue with the quarter-final matches, which will commence on Sept 13.
