Shillong, Sept 10: The Conglomeration of NGOs of Chokpot expressed concern over no action has been taken against proposed coal mining activities at Parongre, Chokpot in South Garo Hills.
“Despite our repeated submission of complaint letters to various government departments, no action has been taken to address our concerns. This persistent inaction has left us with no choice but to consider stronger measures,” stated NGOs of Chokpot.

It further added, “It was resolved in the meeting that if coal mining operations are initiated without proper procedures and if the concerned authorities continue to neglect their responsibilities, the NGOs of Chokpot will be compelled to intervene directly. We are prepared to visit the site and take immediate steps to halt any such unlawful activities,”.
“Furthermore, the meeting also resolved to visit various government offices under the Chokpot area including the PWD, hospitals, and block offices to raise public concerns and advocate for improved services for the welfare of the local community,” they stated.
