Christian faithfuls observe Holy Good Friday with prayers and hymns across Meghalaya

Must read

Shillong, April 7: The Holy Good Friday – marking the crucification of Jesus Christ – was observed with prayers and hymns by the Christian community in every part of the state on Friday.

Hundreds of Roman Catholic faithful partook in a solemn mass at the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians here in Shillong.

In Tura, thousands of Christians flocked the church to attend special mass and prayers as Church services began late in the afternoon as people, a large number of them being young boys and girls, walked to church for the service and hear the reading from the holy Bible at Sacred Heart Church in Tura and in Mission Compound Baptist Church.

Priests in the Catholic Church and reverend and pastors in the Baptist and protestant churches addressed church goers about the importance of Good Friday.

Good Friday service was marked with the largest gathering of Christians across churches all over Garo Hills.

Christians observe Good Friday solemnly to honour the way Jesus Christ underwent tremendous suffering and died for the expiation of their sins. This may involve attending a service where the account of Jesus’s agonising crucifixion is recounted. Catholic faithfuls may even choose to fast as a way of expressing their grief.
