Guwahati, July 13: A church was washed away and several bridges damaged after flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rain swept through parts of Arunachal Pradesh early Monday, leaving a trail of destruction in the remote border district of Kurung Kumey.
The worst-hit areas include Kurung Kumey, Kamle and Pakke Kessang districts, where incessant overnight rainfall caused the Kumey River to swell, inundating villages and damaging public infrastructure.
In Parsi Parlo, St. Thomas Church was completely swept away by the raging floodwaters.

The Baptist Church in the area was also destroyed, while the Inspection Bungalow at Parsi Parlo was flooded. Two residential houses suffered partial damage, and bridges connecting Huri to Damin and Pagam village were washed away, severely disrupting road connectivity.
“Heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the Kumey River during the early hours triggered widespread flash floods, causing significant damage in Parsi Parlo Circle and Damin Sub-Division,” an official said.
The district administration is in constant touch with the police, paramilitary forces and other stakeholders to assess the damage and coordinate relief operations.
Officials said this was the third major flash flood incident in Arunachal Pradesh in the past one month. The latest flooding has also snapped road access to an ITBP camp after a bridge collapsed.
No casualties have been reported so far, even as authorities continue to monitor the situation amid persistent heavy rainfall.
