CM inaugurates 1.47 crore school building in Tura

Tura, April 29: Students of A’konggre Secondary School are elated to be part of the latest technical education facilities as Meghalaya Chief Minister on Friday morning opened their new school building set up at a cost of Rs. 1.47 Crore that will consist of smart classrooms including a well furnished science and computer lab.


The school falls under the constituency of South Tura that is represented by the chief minister himself.

The school construction was funded by Asian Development Bank’s Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya and implemented by the Education Department, Govt of Meghalaya.

The total cost of the building is â‚ą1.47 cr, and includes classrooms, science lab, computer lab and digital classrooms and learning aids.

Happy with the facilities for the young students, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that his government has accorded top priority on education and a budget of about Rs 2700 crore, out of the Rs 16000 total state budget, is annually earmarked for Education.

“Close to 20 percent of total state budget is accorded for education and in the current financial year an additional Rs 170 crore has been sanctioned for basic renovation of close to 2500 LP and UP Schools, upgradation of about 70 LP & UP Schools, Govt Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools,” said the chief minister.

He also said that the govt has envisioned overall revamping of Govt educational infrastructures and further mentioned that with concerted efforts the government continues to work to ensure that the children in the State gets better educational facilities.
