Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Shillong to be inaugurated virtually by Union Cabinet Minister, Dr. Virendra Kumar

Shillong, May 16: The Honourable Union Cabinet Minister, Dr. Virendra Kumar, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E), Govt. of India, will be virtually inaugurating the services of Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) in Shillong, on May 17, 2022 in the presence of Honourable Minister of State, Pratima Bhoumik, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, Honorable Minister Kyrmen Shylla, Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya, Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, Anjali Bhawra (IAS), Secretary, DEPwD, MSJ&E, GOI, Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Social Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya, S. B. Marak (MCS) Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of Meghalaya, Nachiketa Rout, Director, NIEPMD, Chennai, Dr.Roshan Bijlee, Director, CRC- Kozhikode, Nodal Officer of CRC – Shillong, S. Sankara Narayanan, Dy. Registrar (Admin), NIEPMD, senior officers of NIEPMD and CRC- Shillong and Ram Shakal Sahani, Officer Incharge CRC-Shillong.

At present, CRC- Shillong is situated at Monfort Building in Dhanketi, functioning under the administrative control of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai, under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E), Govt. of India with the aim of providing services required for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and developing human resources in the state of Meghalaya.

The Government of India has set up many CRCs in different parts of India, especially in the northeastern states. CRC at Shillong is the 21st of such institutions. The Government of Meghalaya is kind enough to provide 10 acres of land at Umsawli in East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

CRC-Shillong provides clinical services to PwDs i.e. in Special Education, Physiotherapy, Vocational Rehabilitation, Clinical Psychology, Orientation and Mobility training, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Hearing Services, Prosthetic & Orthotic services, Sensory Integration, Guidance & Counseling and Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services in the state.

CRC-Shillong also distributes Aids & Appliances to the Persons with Disabilities under ADIP Scheme by organizing ADIP assessment and distribution camps. Apart from providing clinical services, this organization is involved in creating awareness workshops, developing resource materials, conducting outreach programs and implementing schemes of DEPwD and MSJ&E.

Moreover, CRC-Shillong is committed to work towards the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the State of Meghalaya.
