Shillong, May 5: In a major development concerning irregularities in the much talked about Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday informed that he has ordered to constitute an independent inquiry.
Sangma said that the independent inquiry will be headed by a Retired Judge with two members in it.
Sangma said, “I have given the order yesterday to constitute an independent inquiry into the different charges of corruption and other irregularities that are there in Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).”
The committe is yet to be formed but Sangma has given his order. The other two members will be from the administration who is a retired officer and the other from technical background.
The terms of reference will include different kind of tenders that have taken place from MeECL, from Central as well as State schemes. It will also look into different kinds of manpower issues like appointment and other irregularities in th human resource angle. It will also look into allegations of power theft that has been there. It will also look into the overall AT&C losses and why it has been there. It will be given to look into last 10 years (which is since the inception of MeECL which is when it debundled and MeECL was formed) So for these last ten years it will be looked into.
“We will give a specific time frame which will be in between four to six months will be given to the committee. Exact terms will be worked out by the political department, but I’ve given the order that an inquiry should be constituted at the earliest,” stated Sangma.
In the next few days the Committee will be formed however the process has started.
