Imphal, June 18: Fourteen more persons tested positive for COVID-19 across three districts in Manipur on Tuesday, taking the cumulative total in the state to 34 cases.
“Eight persons tested positive in Imphal West district, while three each were reported from Imphal East and Bishnupur districts,” said an official.
According to officials, of the 34 total cases, 22 were reported from Imphal West, six from Imphal East, four from Bishnupur, and one each from Thoubal and Kakching districts. All five districts are located in the Imphal Valley region.
On June 9, a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district tested positive for COVID-19—the first reported case in the current wave of infections in the northeastern state.
Manipur Health Services Director Dr. Chambo Gonmei said the woman had developed COVID-like symptoms and underwent testing at a private clinic in Imphal on June 5. Her results returned positive on June 9.
He urged people to remain alert amid the rising spread of infections in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a COVID-19 review meeting on Monday at Raj Bhavan. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, senior health officials, and other concerned authorities.
