C&RD Minister orders BDOs to fix connectivity issues, boost rural services

SHILLONG, NOV 28: Minister in-charge Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Sosthenes Sohtun has stressed the need for improved service delivery of the 56 block development offices (BDOs) for proper implementation of various schemes in rural areas.

“We discussed various issues and ways to improve service delivery through the block development offices especially in rural areas,” Sohtun said after chairing a review meeting with department officials on Friday.

The meeting, attended by director, joint director, project directors, and BDOs from 56 blocks, aimed to ensure proper implementation of schemes for overall rural development.

“Lack of connectivity due to no mobile towers is causing problems for village employment councils and self-help groups,” Sohtun said, directing BDOs to resolve this issue.

“The government is committed to bring administration closer to the people, and we want to improve officer services for proper scheme implementation,” he added.

Sohtun emphasized the importance of effective service delivery, stating, “We want to improve the services of the officers for proper implementation of the various schemes in the different blocks for the benefit of the people.”
