Tura, Sept 22: Despite the District Administration barring the night curfew, several pressure groups, including GSU, ADE, FKJGP, FAF and AYWO, have announced a two-day Public Imposed Curfew (Night Road Blockade) on September 22 and 23, from 9 PM to 5 AM, in protest against the state government’s decision to run Tura Medical College under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and the ongoing crisis within the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
In response to the planned protest, Deputy Commissioner, Vibhor Agarwal has announced a series of measures to ensure peace and order. He has invoked Section 163 of the NSS order to prevent any potential violence and emphasized that the administration respects the right to peaceful protest while aiming to minimize disruption to daily life.
Agarwal highlighted the administration’s close coordination with the police to ensure a peaceful outcome. He appealed to the public to act lawfully and stressed the importance of maintaining peace. The Deputy Commissioner noted that the administration has so far respected the peaceful nature of the protests, with two recent rallies concluding without incident, demonstrating mutual respect between the administration and the protesters. An urgent report on the situation is also being sent to the state government to facilitate timely action.
