Shillong, May 13 : Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in charge of the Public Works Department (PWD), Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed road and bridge near Umiam Dam, developed specifically for the movement of night super buses and other heavy vehicles.
The newly built bridge, measuring 75 metres in length, along with a 2.260-kilometre road stretch, has been constructed along the lower side of the existing Damsite bridge, where the movement of night super buses and heavy vehicles had been temporarily restricted.
The new infrastructure is expected to ease traffic movement and improve connectivity for heavy vehicles travelling through the area.
Also present during the inauguration were PWD Commissioner and Secretary Sanjay Goyal, the Chief Engineer of the PWD, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Superintendents of Police from both districts, departmental engineers, government officials, local leaders and residents.
