SHILLONG, DEC 18: Two over ground workers (OWGs) of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were arrested on Thursday for their involvement in the December 15 IED blast at the Dhar company in Shymplong, East Jaintia Hills.
The blast damaged a water tanker vehicle, but no casualties were reported, contrary to HNLC’s claim.
“Two have been arrested… They are OWGs and have admitted to the crime,” a senior police officer said.

When contacted, East Jaintia Hills SP confirmed ongoing investigation, citing a “larger conspiracy” and assuring more arrests.
“Investigation is ongoing, and several teams are working to crack the case.”
The HNLC claimed responsibility, stating it targeted Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s property over extortion refusal.

The outfit’s general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw expressed condolences for an alleged death, claiming it was unintentional.
Police dismissed the death claim as “completely wrong”
“The claim of IED blast is right but the claim of death it is completely wrong,” the SP said.
