Dibrugarh, May 14: Members of various Christian denominations and church organisations in Dibrugarh on Wednesday held a candlelight vigil condemning the killing of three church leaders in Manipur and calling for peace and communal harmony in the violence-hit state.
The vigil, organised by the Kuki Worship Service (KWS), Dibrugarh, brought together pastors, church leaders and believers from different communities, who expressed grief and outrage over the killings of the three pastors in Manipur.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lamkholal Doungel, advisor of the Dibrugarh Inter Church Forum (DICF) and vice-chairman of KWS Dibrugarh, strongly condemned the incident and appealed for restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Church leaders from different denominations, including the Catholic Church, PCI Church, CNI Church and Naga Christian Fellowship, participated in the programme. Among those present were Fr. Joy Pallikunnel, Rev. David, Rev. Noel Swargowari, Rev. Sangma and Pastor Sendonyanger, along with several other religious leaders.
KWS leaders, including Pastor Joseph, chairman P. Chongloi, secretary Jampu Guite, Hau Phiampu, assistant secretary Sangboi Doungel and Sonpau, also attended the vigil.
Special prayers were offered for the bereaved families and those injured in the incident. Participants also prayed for lasting peace in Manipur and expressed hope for restoration of harmony and mutual trust among communities.
As a mark of solidarity and remembrance, participants lit candles and observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims. Speakers at the vigil urged people to reject violence and uphold the values of peace, compassion and coexistence.
