Dibrugarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Dibrugarh on Friday to inaugurate Phase I of Khanikar Stadium and lay the foundation stone of the second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly, projects seen as major additions to the region’s sports and legislative infrastructure.
The programme is scheduled to take place around 10.30 am at Khanikar, where Shah will formally inaugurate the first phase of the stadium, aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure in Upper Assam.
During the visit, the Home Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the new Assam Legislative Assembly complex in Dibrugarh, estimated to be built at a cost of ₹284 crore. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone of the Wildlife Research Institute, a project expected to strengthen scientific research, conservation, and protection of Assam’s biodiversity.
State government officials said the proposed Assembly complex has been envisioned as a modern legislative facility equipped with advanced amenities, while the Wildlife Research Institute will play a key role in enhancing the state’s wildlife conservation framework.
Shah is scheduled to arrive at Dibrugarh airport in the evening and will stay overnight at Manohari Resort in Upper Assam. During his stay, he is expected to meet senior BJP leaders and hold discussions on poll strategy ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, a senior official said.
The announcements have generated optimism among residents of Dibrugarh, who see the projects as a significant boost to the region’s development.
