Must read

TURA, Nov 28: A deep drilling for water underground in a village in Garo Hills has resulted in fire breaking out from beneath in what is suspected to be a possible strike of oil or gas.

The suspected discovery occured on Sunday, Nov 27th, at about 3:30 pm at Aragittim, located 5 kms from Mahendraganj police station in South West Garo Hills district.

Authorities informed that the incident occurred in which fire erupted out of the ground while PHE staff and technicians were drilling the ground related to a JJM water Project.

During the process of drilling, fire gushed out of the drilling hole perhaps due to presence of suspected petroleum product. Immediately on receipt of information, Fire tenders from Mahendraganj F&ES were pressed to action and  able to douse the fire. The hole was so far continuing emitting foam and bubbles. While no report of any casualties from the incident has taken place, the area has been cordoned off by the Police and experts from the oil and petroleum Ministry dealing with excavations are expected to arrive on the ground within the next few days to inspect the leakage of suspected crude oil or gas.
