Guwahati, June 18: A man was apprehended in Assam’s Mankachar area on Thursday after police allegedly recovered suspected heroin from his possession during a raid conducted at Kuchnimara village.
According to police, acting on a tip-off received from a reliable source, officers learned that one Inamul Islam, a resident of Kuchnimara village, was allegedly involved in the supply of narcotic substances. Following the information, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mankachar Police Station made a General Diary entry vide Mankachar PS GDE No. 07 dated June 18, 2026, and informed higher authorities.
After obtaining due authorization from the Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), South Salmara-Mankachar, a police team launched an operation at Kuchnimara village and apprehended the suspect.

During the search, police recovered 21 small vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 23 grams, concealed inside a white plastic polythene packet. A Realme Android mobile handset and cash amounting to Rs 3,440 were also seized from his possession.
Police said the seizure process was documented through the e-Sakshya platform.
A case is being registered and further legal proceedings under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are underway.
Investigation into the matter is continuing.
