Shillong, Aug 5: The deputy commissioner and chairperson of the district disaster management authority (DDMA) of East Khasi Hills has advised the public to avoid all non-essential travel to Pynursla and surrounding areas during the monsoon that resulted in unpredictable heavy rainfall accompanied by poor visibility due to dense fog which increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents and frequent landslides particularly along the Shillong-Pynursla road.

The advisory was issued following the recent tragic incident which killed five persons after their vehicle went off road and plunged into a deep gorge at Rngain area.
The public are also advised to: avoid travel to the affected area unless absolutely necessary. If travel is unavoidable, proceed with extreme caution and stay updated with latest weather update.
Public are further requested to follow travel advisory and warnings issued by SDO (C) Pynursla and DDMA, East Khasi Hills and contact 112 in case of emergency.
