Shillong, Nov 12: There is nothing better than learning by doing — and that’s exactly what 27 aspiring entrepreneurs from across Ri-Bhoi district experienced during a six-day training programme on soap and detergent making.
The programme is underway at Lumsohpet Bneng from November 10 to 15.
Organised by PRIME Meghalaya in collaboration with the Centre of Learning, Knowledge and Services (COLKS), the programme combined practical demonstrations with real-time practice sessions, giving participants the confidence and competence to start or scale their own soap-making enterprises.
“This training really helped me understand the soap-making process step by step. Earlier, I had many doubts, especially about making body wash soap, but now everything is clear. I feel much more confident to produce it on my own,” said the co-founder of PRP Soap Enterprise, Umpling, who plans to launch new product lines after the training.
For Leadingwell Rangdong from Wahumlein, a registered walk-in of PRIME Meghalaya, the experience was transformative. “I came here with very little knowledge about how to make soap, but through this training, I’ve learned the basics — from ingredients to production. It has given me the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start my own soap-making business.”
Teams from PRIME Meghalaya’s Business Facilitation and Media & Communications units also participated, engaging with the trainees and explaining how PRIME supports local entrepreneurs through mentorship, facilitation, and market linkages — helping them transition from learning to livelihood.
The collaboration between PRIME Meghalaya and COLKS continues to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Meghalaya by empowering communities with skills, knowledge, and market opportunities.
