SHILLONG, NOV 12: The opposition Congress has downplayed the emerging political realignment in the North‑East, asserting that the proposed formation of a unified regional front by the National People’s Party (NPP) and other parties poses no threat to the Congress.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Manuel Badwar said there is no threat to the party.

He alleged that the move reflects the failure on the part of the BJP saying, “Most of the regional parties have realised that they are not going to get anywhere by being friends with the BJP and for which they feel that they have to form a new front. Whether that new front is good or bad, history will decide, not us.”
On the NE regional parties giving equal distance to Congress and BJP, Badwar said that is their philosophy of how they want to do things.
“As of right now, I think it is not such a good idea… if you start a new party it will cost you a lot of money, most of which will have to come from Meghalaya, and I don’t think the public at large will accept that,” he stated further.
