Tura, March 19: The West Garo Hills District Police have issued a clarification after a misleading image showing a senior citizen from Tura being handcuffed and escorted by police went viral on social media.
In an official press release, Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills, Abraham T. Sangma said no such arrest has been made and confirmed that the image in circulation is AI-generated and completely fake. Authorities said the image does not depict any real incident and has been shared with malicious intent to mislead the public and potentially escalate ongoing law and order concerns in the district.
Police have urged the public not to believe or forward unverified content and to verify the authenticity of any images, videos, or messages before sharing them on social media.
They also appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities by promptly reporting any instances of fake or misleading content to the nearest police station, outpost, beat house, or the Police Control Room (PCR) in Tura.
