Shillong, Sep 25: Football is the most beautiful game, a religion for big footballing nations of the World, the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Spain and England. The same atmosphere, the same love and the craze is felt in Shillong.European football clubs have their own Official Supporters Club (OSC) which is recognised by the parent Club. Chelsea Football Club, the European Champion and UEFA Super Cup winner, has recognised the Shillong Chelsea Supporter’s Club as the official Supporters Club. In September 2020, Chelsea Football Club from London featured a social media post appreciating the fans of Chelsea Shillong OSC. Manchester City fans of Shillong also known as the Shillong Cityzens is another Supporters Club from Shillong recognised by the parent Club in England.

These Supporters Club on every weekend play friendly matches amongst the other Supporters Club. As we all know, ‘all work no play make jack a dull boy’. Hence, the motive of these friendly match is to divert the Shillong Youth from engaging in an unhealthy activities, such as indulging in intake of substances.

Not restricting only to football, these Clubs also contribute towards social causes, such as charity work and causes towards the environment issue, such as cleaning drive.

The love for Football is undeniable in Shillong. Randomly ask a 6 year old in the street about football, and they’ll definetly tell their favourite clubs and their favourite players.Football fans would sacrifice their busy schedule to watch their favourite Club playing to the extent that a school in Shillong announced a day off just for teachers and students to enjoy the EURO 2020 Final.
