Williamnagar, January 11: Mahamsing M. Sangma, former Member of the District Council (MDC) of the 29 Williamnagar Constituency, has expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, for initiating the release of long-pending pension benefits for former MDCs.
Mahamsing M. Sangma served as the MDC of the 29 Williamnagar Constituency from 1999 to 2003 under the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). Speaking exclusively to Hub News, he stated that the pension amount due for his tenure from 2004 to 2012 was received in 2013. However, after that period, the pension was discontinued, causing him and other former MDCs to face prolonged uncertainty.
After a gap of nearly twelve years, Mahamsing M. Sangma recently received pension arrears covering ten years. Expressing relief and appreciation, he thanked the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma for taking the initiative to ensure that former MDCs receive their rightful pension benefits.
He further stated that the move has brought much-needed financial security and recognition to former elected representatives who had served the people and contributed to the development of the region.
