Shillong, July 29: Former Home Minister of Meghalaya, RG Lyngdoh, passed away on Friday at his residence in Nongrim Hills after a period of brief illness.

He was 62 years old and is survived by his wife, five children and two grand children.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to condole the demise of Lyngdoh. “The fearless Shri R. G. Lyngdoh, former Home Minister of Meghalaya was a personality we all looked up to. Cheerful and witty, Bah Robert was a friend to everyone he encountered. Deeply saddened by the news of his passing. My deepest condolences to @ampareenlyngdoh & his family,” he wrote.

The former minister had been on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a hospital after his health condition deteriorated on July 11.

He was also a steadfast Congressman. He held the position of Shillong City Congress President for seven years (from year 2000 to 2007) and in the most recent past, he was the Block President of Nongthymmai Block Congress Committee. The Party will miss him deeply… Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee felt that no words would be enough to describe his sad demise, and the void caused would be difficult to fill.”
“We, from The Congress, would like to express our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and we pray that the Almighty will grant them solace and strength in this hour of grief,” it added.

Lyngdoh is the brother of senior Congress leader and former minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. He had made a political comeback by rejoining Congress last year.
